Guided Blindfolded Walks
Blindfolded Walks, an aural exploration of the tenderloin district in San Francisco, resulted from time spent researching the neighborhood and establishing connections with various long -time inhabitants in order to collaborate on constructing a local perspective of the complex community through a series of recorded guided walks. In order to allow for meaning to arise and diverge
and escape the assigned fixity of a visual experience, I was led blindfolded by guides of various ages and ethnicities for the site- specific sound project.
The blindfold and the recording of audio served to create a more inmate and
direct experience for the listeners. The guides were in charge of the route
and constructing narratives as they directed the aural sojourn through their community.
The walks were broadcast on a temporary FM radio station in collaboration with
the Tender Transmissions collective received in the neighborhood during the Wonderland Show presented by curator by Lance Fung.
