Artificial Biophilia
Coined by Harvard biologist Dr Edward Wilson in 1984, the term “biophillia” posits a universal innate connection between nature and humanity. In contemporary America, more than a hundred and fifty years after the concept of environmentalism emerged, environmental destruction continues at a rapid pace as artificial environments overwhelmingly serve as substitutes for the real thing.
Artificial Biophilia, an experimental hand processed 16 mm loop, critiques the notion of a past and future human connection to nature, exploring phenomenologically the sensation of ‘nature’ as posited universal connection.
The Film was screened at the Rising Tides Conference in San Francisco, California.
